On3ko EDM Concert at The Coffeehouse

On3ko was a challenging show, but so so much fun; I was tasked with drumming live as well as pre programming lights to sync with a click track. The basic premise of this show was to create a concert where the visuals are synced to the music; however doing this with no budget proved difficult. I was on drums, Angelo was on guitar in addition to Casper, and Liz was on bass. The whole musical group was lovely to work with since each musician brought their own unique voice to the performance.

The project began with On3ko creating the music, which then was placed into Bitwig (similar to Ableton) where we used it as a playback rig for the live show. Each performer got their own in-ear monitors to have a click track to be able to keep time. In addition to the in-ears, each performer also had 3D printed helmet with a wireless HDMI screen attached to it for live TV screens during the show. This is where the visual and light elements came in; Angelo created the visuals in Touch Designer and had them linked to MIDI notes coming from Bitwig. I used a similar method but with QLC+ to control the lights in the rig.

I’m just glad I got to try something new technically, while working with my friends from college. There was quite a lot of work that went into this performance, it went so well there may even be more performances in the future!
